Modbus Organization forges link to Chinese Standards Organization

Hopkinton, MA — Modbus Organization Inc. (MOI) announced March 3, 2003, an addition to its Board of Directors that bears on closer links between MOI and the Chinese Standards Organization.


Hopkinton, MAModbus Organization Inc . (MOI) announced March 3, 2003, an addition to its Board of Directors that bears on closer links between MOI and the Chinese Standards Organization.

The new director on MOI's Board is Feng Xiaosheng, Chairman of the China Technical Committee of Industrial Measurement and Control. Mr. Feng also is VP of China Instrumentation Technology & Economy Institute (ITEI). Part of China's Ministry of Machine Industry, ITEI has broad responsibility for research, regulation, certification, and policy for industrial instrumentation in the country.

This new link with the Modbus Organization indicates a growing interest in adopting open standards in China. MOI also cites the development ''as an important step forward in the further adoption of the Modbus protocol in Chinese industry.''

Mr. Feng will team with the following existing directors of the Modbus Organization: Lynn Linse of Digi International, James Moyne of the University of Michigan, and Diego Areces of Schneider Automation. Ken Crater serves as the organization's president.

The organization seeks additional directors to widen its representation in the communities it serves—namely, supplier, end-user, and integrator. The Modbus Organization is a nonprofit trade association formed in October 2002 to promote and provide orderly evolution for the Modbus protocol, which was introduced by Modicon way back in 1979.
