Modules enable operation of 16 fast Ethernet ports per switch

Fan-free Hirschmann PoE/PoE Plus Modules are available for Belden's MACH100 Workgroup Series Switches.

03/28/2011

Belden announced the availability of fan-free Hirschmann PoE/PoE Plus Modules for its MACH100 Workgroup Series Switches. The Module’s eight Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 BASE-TX) provide either 15.4 W (PoE) or 30 W (PoE Plus) operation, with PoE Plus functionality available to four of the unit’s eight ports. Two PoE/PoE Plus Modules can be used with each Hirschmann MACH100 Switch for a total availability of 16 ports per switch – all of which can be operated simultaneously to provide up to 120 W total power. For additional flexibility, the Module’s PoE Plus ports can power devices with higher power requirements such as IP pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras, Voice over IP (VoIP) videophones, or multiband WLAN access points.

The Module’s user-friendliness is assured via LEDs at each port which signal PoE or PoE Plus operation, according to Belden. 48 V dc (PoE) or 52 V dc (PoE Plus) power is secured through use of an external power supply that is connected via twisted pairs to the unit’s three-pin terminal block. These plug-and-play, hot-swappable modules are shielded to protect against electrostatic discharges, magnetic fields, and interference. Network management software and a web interface are available to facilitate easy configuration and diagnostics.

Hirschmann MACH100 Switches

Belden’s Hirschmann-branded MACH100 Modular Fast Ethernet Switches support Profinet and EtherNet/IP and can be used to network workgroups via copper or fiber optic cables while connecting them to the backbone via two Gigabit combo ports. The switches operate in the temperature range 32 °F to +122 °F, offer extensive management and redundancy procedures, and a variety of functions for configuration and diagnostics. They also possess a fanless cooling system and a redundant power supply.
