Electronic commerce and bus systems were two innovation themes at Hannover Industrial Fair ’99 that can add substantially to customer benefits, according to Klaus Wucherer, president of Siemens A&D Group (Erlangen, Germany). The innovations stem from the deeper reach of information technology into industrial businesses. “By 2001, we wish to handle about one-third of our orders in electronic form,” says Dr. Wucherer. Siemens A&D already provides e-commerce ordering facilities via the Internet. Juoko Karvinen, president of ABB Automation Power Products Business Area (Zürich), says his firm’s Comp-AC web site has been enhanced by the recent launch of its German-language version. Comp-AC lets users buy ac adjustable-speed drives up to 37 kW.
