More ways to evaluate systems integrators

The article, "How to Work with a Systems Integrator," in the June issue [Control Engineering, 1998, p. 48] provides some excellent criteria to aid end-users in their evaluation and selection of a good integrator. We would suggest you add two more, based on our clients' tales of unfortunate experiences they've had with some previous integrators.

The article, "How to Work with a Systems Integrator," in the June issue [ Control Engineering , 1998, p. 48] provides some excellent criteria to aid end-users in their evaluation and selection of a good integrator. We would suggest you add two more, based on our clients' tales of unfortunate experiences they've had with some previous integrators.

The first is related to the financial/business stability of the integrator. Will it be around to provide long-term support for this project and for future projects? Can the integrator support the costs and all requirements associated with the current project? A review of the integrator's length of service, its client list, along with its Dun & Bradstreet report should answer these questions.

The second item involves the personnel assigned to the project. Will the players one meets during the proposal stage actually be involved in the job? Clients should ask to meet with the key engineering personnel who will be responsible for design and performance of their system.

The above considerations along with the valuable information in the article will give users the means to choose the right systems integrator.
