Operating speed at 50 nm resolution is 2 m/s, or reportedly three times faster than similar 20icted motion platform designs.

The encoder family also is available with stick-on bi-directional optical index and limit markers that let designers configure the scale to the application during production. Repeatability for the index is 1 LSB at full speed. Markers can be placed anywhere along the scale and are designed to fit on the 6 mm wide laser tape or on glass scales. Maximum system width is the same as the scale.

Mercury II is described as the easiest and fastest sensor to align and set up. No instrumentation or external modules are needed. It features next-generation optical design and SmartPrecision II electronics and is RoHS compliant. Cable runs up to 5 m from the sensor and up to 20 m from the interpolator to the controller are possible. Software enables programmable resolution, encoder setup, alarms, and analysis using a variety of data plots.
