Zurich, Switzerland — Electric motor and motor system experts as well as interested professionals from research, government, and the private sector will gather for the 2nd annual international Motor Summit, to be held here Nov. 24-26, 2008. Objective of the conference is to promote international cooperation toward more efficient electric motor systems involving pumps, fans, compressors, and various mechanical traction applications.
Motor Summit 2008 (MS’08) intends to publicize innovative technological developments for furthering energy-efficiency, current state of market penetration, and strategies and actions needed to overcome barriers to the growth of high-efficiency motor systems, say the event organizers. International scope of the conference includes discussion of new U.S. legislation that will make NEMA Premium motors the minimum energy performance standard (MEPS) by 2011—as contained in the recent U.S. Energy Act.
Organizer of (MS’08) is the Swiss Agency for Efficient Energy Use (S.A.F.E.)—in collaboration with the international harmonization initiative SEEEM (Standards for Energy Efficiency of Electric Motor Systems), the IEA (International Energy Agency) 4E Motor Systems Annex, and the Swiss Energy program Topmotors. Focus of the conference will be on:
- New Swiss Topmotors program ;
- European Ecodesign Energy-using Products (EuP) Directive requirements ;
- New IEA 4E Project Motor Systems ; and
- IEC motor efficiency classification system (IEC 60034-30).
Chronology of MS’08 will follow as International Strategy day on 25 Nov., Swiss implementation day on 26 Nov., and a “side event“ on 24 Nov. for working groups of SEEEM , EuP, and IEA 4E. Control Engineering will provide further coverage of Motor Summit 2008.
