National Manufacturing Week includes motion control, motor, sensor presentations

Multiple, concurrent trade shows of the 15th National Manufacturing Week in Chicago’s McCormick Place (March 7-10, 2005), particularly the National Industrial Automation Show (NIAS), will offer opportunities to learn about products of more than 1,000 exhibitors first hand, and attend one or more of 300 conference sessions in 10 tracks that include motor and motion control and sensor topics. Some related sessions include:

• Session 1D23 (Design Engineering track): “Computer Aided Optimal Synthesis of Mechanisms,” 9:30-10:20 a.m., Monday March 7.

• Session 1IA22 (Industrial Automation track): “Wireless Mesh Condition-Based Monitoring: Measuring Electric Motor Efficiencies,” 9:30-10:20 a.m., Monday March 7.

• Session 2IA32 (Industrial Automation): “Customize Your Motion Controller for Better Machine Performance,” 10:30-11:20 a.m., Tuesday March 8.

• Session 2P12 (Plant Engineering track): “Getting Top Returns from Motor Management,” 8:30-10:20 a.m., Tuesday March 8.

• Session 4D32 (Design Engineering): “Design and use of Epicyclic Gear Systems,” 10:30–11:20 a.m., Thursday March 10.

Control Engineering ’s Mark Hoske is moderating two Industrial Automation sessions.

Session 1IA12 , “Ethernet in the Manufacturing Enterprise” will be held at 8:30 to 9:20 a.m. on March 7, and will include Mike Bryant, executive director of the Profibus Trade Organization, Katherine Voss, executive director of the Open DeviceNet Vendors Association (ODVA), and, in a change of speakers, Marc Ostertag, VP and general manager of B&R Industrial Automation in Atlanta, GA, will represent Ethernet Powerlink Standardization Group (EPSG). (Ostertag replaces Markus Sandhoefner, B&R Industrial Automation USA.)

Session 2IA11 , “Position Sensing” will be held at 8:30 to 9:20 a.m. on March 8, providing “feedback” on what the latest position-sensing technologies have to offer, including application information from automation system integrators: Scott Shaw, president, Automated Control Systems Inc.; Ken Brey, technical director, DMC Inc.; and Sam Hammond, chief engineer, Innoventor Inc.
