Wireless Industrial Networking Alliance (WINA),

WINA, on Jan. 29 announced the 2008 strategic leadership team elected to the board of directors. The 2008 members of the WINA board of directors are president, Ian McPherson (

Apprion

); vice president, Dave Kaufman (Honeywell); vice president, marketing and communications, Steve Toteda (Dust Networks); secretary, John Jacobs (3eTI); and treasurer, Randy Klassen (Ominex); and past president, Hesh Kagan (

Invensys

).

WINA also announced global expansion through the opening of an Asia Pacific Chapter.

As WINA president, McPherson expects to lead the organization in its efforts to develop and promote educational programs that communicate the benefits of industrial wireless. McPherson says, "Wireless technology is a crucial part of the future of our industry. Companies want to optimize resource efficiency and productivity, and we can teach them how to achieve those goals through industrial wireless." McPherson also is co-founder and vice president of Apprion, a company that provides wireless technologies.

WINA describes itself as the “premier organization providing a forum for industrial wireless technology education, information, and an exchange of ideas for future development of industrial wireless technologies,” WINA says it has focused on catalyzing the exchange of information and strategic direction between government, academia, technology producers and industrial end users globally.

Kagan, WINA's prior president, adds, "I am delighted to pass the leadership baton, and welcome the incoming team at a seminal time for this organization. Wireless technology and wireless networking systems hold great promise to help our industry use energy and materials more efficiently, lower systems and infrastructure costs, increase productivity, and ensure worker safety." Kagan also is strategic technology director at Invensys Process Systems.

3eTI, Accutech, Dust Networks, Emerson, Honeywell, Invensys, ISA, Onmex Controls, ORNL, and SensorLogic Corp.
