In a flurry of activity, Aspen Technology Inc. recently unveiled a variety of new products and services that extend the abilities of its nine-month-old Plantelligence suite of solutions. Created to help process manufacturers design and maintain operations, Plantelligence uses models of thousands of operating constraints to define the optimal balance of physical and capital resources required for a process plant to maximize output and improve profits.
"We see a large and growing market in process manufacturing plants for complete, integrated systems that encompass the entire process lifecycle," says Larry Evans, AspenTech's chairman and ceo. "Bringing together the technologies we've developed and acquired within Plantelligence means we can organize our offerings around specific business functions, such as process synthesis, quality assurance, and production planning."
To help users model the chemical, physical, and economic conditions that determine the plant's capacity, AspenTech offers:
Aspen Plus 10.0, a modeling product with Microsoft Windows compatibility and a range of new process simulation features; and
Polymers Plus 3.0, also Windows-compatible, which includes new capabilities for modeling polymers production.
To assist plant operators in modifying operations in real time to increase throughput, yield, and reliability, AspenTech offers:
RT-Opt 3.0 real-time optimization system, which integrates with Aspen Plus for full Windows compatibility;
Aspen Watch 1.0, permits remote or on-site performance monitoring and fault diagnosis;
Aspen Sustained Performance Services, based on Aspen Watch, allows AspenTech staffers to perform remote monitoring of customers' control systems;
Aspen IQ 1.0, which AspenTech says is the first software product to make inferential calculations of plant variables that are difficult or impossible to directly measure;
InfoPlus.21 2.0 and Aspen Process Explorer 2.0—the server and client components of AspenTech's Windows NT-based process information management system—which have new design and engineering enhancements; and
Aspen Multivariate 1.0, which uses statistical techniques to measure interrelated plant variables and provides real-time process monitoring, analysis, and fault detection.
To help managers integrate data from design and operations applications, as well as from the plant floor and ERP systems, AspenTech offers:
Aspen PIMS 10.0, which integrates Aspen Plus and RT-Opt to improve economic planning and scheduling applications;
