New SCADA system for ONGC Ltd.'s oil and gas assets

03/02/2006

ABB said it has been awarded a $95 million contract for an enterprise wide supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system from India's largest integrated oil and gas company, ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corp.) The new system will monitor, control and manage vital information from ONGC's production and drilling facilities, linking oil basins, processing plants, forward base, and other assets to the corporate data center. It is designed to support the company's geographically dispersed production and drilling facilities, onshore and offshore, with‘anytime-anywhere’ data access to enable faster decision-making and response.

The turnkey ABB project, set for completion by year-end 2007, encompasses site survey, system design, engineering, supply, installation and commissioning of an integrated three-tier SCADA system, and it includes a six-year annual maintenance contract. Expected project benefits include reduction in the time and cost for data integration, enhanced reliability and scalability, monitoring and control of assets across multiple locations and improved efficiency of oil exploration.

ONGC is one of Asia's leading oil and gas conglomerates and India's most valuable company in terms of market capitalization.

ABB is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 103,000 people.
