New Website features Ethernet protocol

Hoping to convert users still bound by hard-wiring techniques, new technically oriented site promotes the growing protocol.

PI North America has launched a new Website, dedicated to showing users how they can incorporate ProfiNet networking protocol into their next project. (PI North America is the new name of the old PTO group. The global industrial networking organization is rebranding world-wide for greater consistency between the regional chapters.)

The All Things ProfiNet site is positioned to help provide users and potential users with technical guidance as they consider ways to apply the Ethernet-based networking platform. Mike Bryant, director of PI North America, says that the site is intended to lead a visitor through levels of information in a logical progression, beginning with the most basic questions about what the technology is and what it does. It explains how industrial Ethernet differs from typical office environments, and how it can interface with conventional IT networks.

The site accepts no advertising and exists to provide information to users during critical evaluation phases. Bryant commented that the group is targeting its marketing efforts at users who are still using hard-wiring techniques in plant floor applications, and have not made the critical leap to Ethernet protocols.
