Product Exclusive: With a superior high-resolution 12.1-in. display, Maple Systems HMI5121P has a durable aluminum enclosure with TFT touchscreen, 16.2 million colors, and a 1,024 x 768-pixel screen with LED backlight. The new Maple Systems HMI5121P offers advanced features in a durable aluminum enclosure at a low cost. Maple Systems introduces the latest in a series of popular human machine interfaces (HMIs), the HMI5121P. This new model is equipped with a bright 12.1-in. thin-film transistor (TFT) touchscreen capable of displaying up to 16.2 million colors on a 1,024 x 768-pixel screen. Light-emitting diode (LED) backlight of the display ensures a long lifespan at a high level (500 nits) of brightness. The touchscreen is housed in a sleek aluminum enclosure that is compact and resistant to corrosion. This model has “more power under the hood” by taking advantage of the latest technological improvements in microprocessor design. The HMI5121P uses an efficient 800 MHz microprocessor designed for graphic animation, video, and heavy data processing.

This HMI connects to a long list of PLCs, drives, and motion controllers through two serial ports, USB ports, a CAN bus port, and an Ethernet port (including support for BACnet). The new EZwarePlus configuration software makes it much easier to import tag data from leading PLC manufacturers like Rockwell Automation and Siemens, so there is no need to maintain separate tag database information. The micro SD slot can be used to log data or capture alarm history. The two video input ports allow connections to two motion cameras to the HMI for remote monitoring to improve product quality or to capture alarm conditions. Play video files using the built-in media player for training or instructional purposes. The audio output port is available to connect an external sound system.

The EZwarePlus configuration software has many enhanced options, including increased recipe functionality, advanced macro support, and better diagnostic tools to make it easier to program and maintain your HMI. With the sophisticated security options, you can now manage user accounts and privilege settings to ensure that only authorized employees are allowed to perform sensitive tasks.

E-mail messages can be configured to include screen shots to remote personnel alerting them of alarm conditions in the plant. With the EasyAccess feature, you can easily set up remote monitoring and control of your HMI from any networked PC. The HMI also supports VNC (virtual network computing), allowing you to monitor the HMI from a handheld device or smartphone.

A 7.0-in. model (HMI5070P) and a 15.0-in. model (HMI5150P) also are available. The HMI5000P Series units are NEMA4 (IP66) rated with CE and RoHS certification. These models will also carry UL listing, pending certification.

Case Study Database

Get more exposure for your case study by uploading it to the Control Engineering case study database, where end-users can identify relevant solutions and explore what the experts are doing to effectively implement a variety of technology and productivity related projects.

These case studies provide examples of how knowledgeable solution providers have used technology, processes and people to create effective and successful implementations in real-world situations. Case studies can be completed by filling out a simple online form where you can outline the project title, abstract, and full story in 1500 words or less; upload photos, videos and a logo.

Poll of the Week

Are your industrial networks well defended against cyber attacks?
Like Fort Knox. Solid defense in depth.
Well defended, I think, but not positive.
Working on it, but not there yet.
Few defenses, but who would find us?
We’re wide open, living on borrowed time.
