National Instruments Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) platform is a complete remote monitoring solution that consists of NI LabView graphical programming software and low-power, reliable wireless measurement nodes. NI software integration allows end users to create complete solutions to meet the unique needs of their application, including hybrid wired and wireless systems and connectivity to third-party devices. LabView also provides the flexibility to choose a Microsoft Windows-based host controller for the WSN system or a real-time controller such as NI CompactRIO. In addition, LabView programs can be downloaded wirelessly to run on WSN nodes to achieve longer battery life, integration with custom sensors, and even embedded decision making. National Instruments says its WSN systems are ideal for applications such as environmental monitoring, utility monitoring, healthcare, transportation, and structural health monitoring. Each WSN node can operate for up to three years on four AA batteries and can be deployed for long-term, remote operation in rugged or outdoor conditions.
