Chicago, Ill. - Digi International (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Kepware Technologies (Yarmouth, Me.) announced during National Manufacturing Week a partnership to develop an embedded OPC server and embedded OPC data exchange (DX) device. The companies will offer an extension of the use of PCs by embedding an OOPC server in an industrial grade device server box.

Says Joel Young, Digi vp of device server products, 'Combining Digi's knowledge of device server products and Kepware's expertise in OPC software will allow manufacturers to integrate their networks more reliably and cost effectively.'

'With the introduction of OPC DX standards, the OPC market is on the verge of a transformation,' said Mark Hensley, president of Kepware Technologies. 'Our convergence of technologies will allow both Digi and Kepware to lead the industrial connectivity market as Ethernet data exchange becomes the new standard for automation companies.'

Digi and Kepware embedded OPC servers are expected to be introduced to market by 2003.
