Chicago, Ill. - Microsoft Corp. (Redmond, Wa.) made a number of announcements at National Manufacturing Week , which includes the Industrial Automation Show, here, March 18-21.

Microsoft SharePoint web portal technology aims to make life easier for manufacturers. TOA Electronics (South San Francisco, Calif.) manufacturer of commercial sound equipment cited 15-20% lower time to handle support calls.

The software helped consolidate documents, data, and other information that comprised the corporate knowledge base and make available information previously located in disparate areas. Office XP and SharePoint Portal Server together allows creation of an access point for finding and managing information.

Microsoft representatives also reviewed other aspects and successes of Microsoft .Net for Manufacturing, which aims to "empower manufacturing enterprises to leverage the full power of the Internet any time, any place, on any device."
