QD12 compact encoder from Quantum Devices Inc. provides improved feedback for applications that typically use modular encoders. Device features a small O.D. (1.2 in.), an overall height of just over an inch, and the stability of a bearing encoder design. It is said to offer significant performance upgrades in applications limited by traditional modular encoders. Outputs consist of a quadrature with index pulse and three-phase commutation. A flexible member reportedly allows for much greater tail shaft runout than can be tolerated by modular encoder designs. It also provides 308 rotation for commutation timing to provide the performance of a lightweight robust assembly.
