Oracle boosts product data quality capabilities, buys Silver Creek Systems

Managing product descriptions and data integration will get easier for manufacturers with Oracle's acquisition of Silver Creek Systems.

Manufacturers often have challenges managing and integrating product data through the supply chain, and Oracle's acquisition of Silver Creek Systems Inc., announced Jan. 4, is expected to improve product data quality, Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) suggests.
The Silver Creek DataLens product data quality solution is designed to simplify complex product descriptions commonly found in many industries. Accurate product data improves time-to-market for new products, enhances supply chain execution, increases operational efficiencies, and facilitates better business decisions across the enterprise, Oracle said. The company is expected to enhance product data quality across enterprise applications, including Oracle's Product Information Management Data Hub, Agile Product Lifecycle Management, Supply Chain Management and Enterprise Resource Planning offerings.

"Lack of standardized product data continues to be a challenge for manyenterprises," said Hasan Rizvi, senior vice president, Oracle FusionMiddleware Product Development. With the addition of Silver Creek,Oracle expects to extending its data integration offering withcomplementary solutions to "enhance product data quality and helpcustomers get more accurate and consistent product data for use acrosstheir enterprise," Rizvi noted.
"Since our inception we have focusedon working closely with our customers to solve some of the toughestproblems in the data quality world," said Barbara Mowry, Silver CreekSystems President and Chief Executive Officer. Combining with Oracleexpands those opportunities, Mowry said.
The addition of Silver Creek products complements Oracle's Information Management offerings that include Oracle Data Integration, Oracle Data Quality, Oracle Master Data Management, and Oracle Business Intelligence, to provide a more complete and integrated solution.
The combination of Silver Creek and Oracle is expected to extend Oracle's leadership in data integration with advanced data quality capabilities to manage product data across multiple industries.
Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
