Oriental Motor: Compact, hollow-shaft rotary actuators

An unusually compact direct-drive rotary actuator with a large diameter hollow-shaft is the result of combining a stepper motor and a gear-coupled output in one novel package. New DG Series rotary actuator from Oriental Motor USA Corp . integrates single-stage spur gear reduction into the design to provide through holes as large as 2.44 in. diameter at the actuator’s output table for direct connection to the load.

DG Series rotary actuator comes in three frame sizes: 60 mm (2.36 in.), 85 mm (3.35 in.), and 130 mm (5.25 in.). The gear-reduction mechanism offers repeatability ofand 130-mm models apply a cross-roller bearing in the output table and provide higher permissible torques of 24 lb-in. (2.8 Nm) and 106 lb-in. (12 Nm), respectively.

DG Series rotary actuators are rated for 200-rpm maximum permissible speed or 250 kHz input control frequency—depending on resolution setting, according to Oriental Motor. Power input choices include 24 V dc, 100 V ac (1-phase), and 200 V ac (1- and 3-phase). Matching driver electronics, controller (sold separately), and various accessories complement these compact rotary actuators.
