PAC modules: Support for database Views leads to faster configuration
xCoupler data exchange modules for Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PACs (programmable automation controllers) now support database Views, reducing configuration time between the business system and the PAC by approximately 50%, reports xCoupler vendor Online Development Inc.
xCoupler data exchange modules for Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PACs (programmable automation controllers) now support database Views, reducing configuration time between the business system and the PAC by approximately 50%, reports xCoupler vendor Online Development Inc. The feature enables the module to read only tables selected by the database administrator and to link data from several tables into one virtual table. The capability and the Views supplied with the xCoupler module reduce the number of event-triggers that need to be configured.
The modules provide a robust, simple, and low-cost way to support initiatives such as business intelligence, data warehousing, enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, supply chain management, and others. Set-ups can be made in 60 min. or less to configure specific plant floor devices with a database to execute commands, download and confirm batch recipes, create reports and alerts, and provide a variety of instructions.
xCoupler modules eliminate security, virus, and data integrity problems that may occur when complex PC-based multi-tier systems are used to exchange plant floor data with business systems. The module’s operating system is virtually immune to security problems and virus attacks and reportedly provides exceptional data accuracy and timeliness. Plant floor devices cannot affect the operation of the xCoupler module and the module’s operation cannot affect plant floor devices.
Module administration, security, and transaction set- up is accomplished with the xCoupler module’s WorkBench configuration tool. Its drag-and-drop operation and intuitive display of device tags make set-up simple and easy. No special programming skills are required. The tool also eliminates the need for enterprise drivers, control systems drivers, and future upgrade maintenance. In addition to IBM, Microsoft, and Oracle databases, the WorkBench utility supports configuration of xCoupler modules with IBM WebSphere MQ messaging systems.
xCoupler modules provide convergence between plant and IT operations with a simple to install and configure information appliance that allows unobtrusive operation on the plant floor while supplying robust, configurable data for the business system. It is applicable in a variety of industries, including heavy equipment, automotive, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, metal producing, and tire and rubber.
Online Development develops factory automation hardware and software for products in the industrial market space. Its technologies enable various brands of PLCs and PACs to communicate with field devices or other controllers on the factory floor by providing simple, highly effective connectivity between various proprietary factory automation devices.
