Sinamics S120 ac drive from Siemens Energy & Automation, shown for the first time at Pack Expo 2006 last week, expands the line into integrated modular drive systems for single-axis and multi-axis applications.

Chicago, IL and Alpharetta, GA —Sinamics S120 ac drive from Siemens Energy & Automation Inc . is designed for high-performance single-axis applications. Introduced at Pack Expo International, held here last week, the drive is reported to be the first integrated modular drive system for single- and multi-axis applications that can run high-performance servo and vector modes.

Product features an innovative modular concept that separates power and intelligence. Built-in, easy positioning functionality handles positioning tasks such as those found in automatic assembly machines and material handling systems. Applications include packaging, printing, plastics, textiles, converting, and hoisting.

S120 ac drives are available in single-phase 230-V in the 0.25 to 1 hp power range, and three-phase 460 V in the 0.5 to 400 hp power range. Power modules come in compact block construction (0.25 to 125 hp) or as chassis units (150 to 400 hp). On-board “safe-off” and “safe brake” safety integrated technology protects operators from injury and machinery from damage. Communication interfaces include Profibus and Profinet (industrial Ethernet) for remote access, high-speed communications, and integration into existing networks and automation systems.

“The single-axis ac drive complements the existing Sinamics S120 multi-axis drives,” said Craig Nelson, product manager, Siemens Energy & Automation Inc. “Now one integrated drive family can be used for all applied drive applications using induction, servo, linear, or torque motors.”
