The OG-Cube photoelectric sensor from ifm efector inc. provides high optical performance in a compact metal housing. The sensor offers position detection in industrial applications such as conveying, packaging, material handling and automotive manufacturing. Its robust metal housing withstands harsh industrial conditions and is reportedly more durable than traditional plastic housings. The sensor features metal M18 mounting threads that will not strip during mounting—a common challenge with plastic threads. The sensor’s standard M12 connector resists high torquing and provides quick wiring, according to the company. The sensor features bright LEDs to indicate operating status (power and output) and a powerful, visible red light source with a large spot diameter that enables easy alignment for quick setup. The sensors are designed to provide long sensing ranges that increase the distance between the sensor and the target and prevent physical damage from fast-moving targets.

For application versatility, the product family includes two models: high-precision background suppression and long-range polarized retro-reflective. High precision background suppression technology eliminates the need for adjustments as target colors change. These background suppression models incorporate a sensing element that contains 63 diode receivers placed on an integrated circuit.

The multiple receivers provide more information about the target and the background, offering improved feedback. Models are available with pushbutton setup and an adjustable sensing range from 15 to 200 mm. Fixed range units offer a 100 or 200 mm sensing range. The polarized retro-reflective model features an extended sensing range up to 4 m when paired with a 50 mm reflector. To avoid false triggers caused by reflections from shiny or highly reflective targets, the OG retro-reflective models contain a polarizing filter.

For quick installation, ifm has designed two bracket systems for the OG-Cube and reflectors. With a full 360° adjustment, the mounting bracket kits enable both products to rotate in multiple directions to fit an application. Its flexibility simplifies alignment and eliminates the need to manufacture brackets in-house. Starting list price for the metal-bodied OG-Cube with high precision optical technology is $69.
