Hannover, Germany; Hannover Fair - Borrowing from the microPLC concept from PLC manufacturers safety relay manufacturer Pilz introduced a safety controller called PNOZmulti that handles from 4 to 14 safety functions, including emergency stop, safety gates, light barriers, and two hand control. The unit consists of a base module with a range of extension modules.

The PNOZmulti is positioned above various safety switch product families which handle a maximum of four safety functions, and below high end programmable safety controllers which accommodate many dozens of tasks.

The new micro safetyPLC eliminates almost all wiring necessary to create a small safety system, explained Horst-Dieter Kraus of Pilz. With the configurator software users line up icons representing safety devices and connect them through Boolean function blocks to outputs. While the system is relatively easy to configure, the user must be aware of safety categories and have an understanding of safety concepts and the use of his equipment.
