Denso Corp. announced it will build a new facility on the premises of its Agui Plant located in Agui-cho, Chita-gun, Aichi prefecture, Japan. Construction of the new facility is set to start in July and be completed in March 2007. Production of electronic products including bar-code readers, IC card readers, and programmable controllers is scheduled to start in May 2007.

Denso Elecs Co. Ltd., a wholly owned company by Denso, will transfer its headquarters and electronic product manufacturing plant from the Denso Takatana Plant in Anjo, Aichi prefecture to the new facility. The building area will be 12,800 square meters and the total building investment will be approximately 2.2 billion yen (approximately $19 million). Denso, a Tokyo-based company, made the announcement in early June. Denso Elecs employs 322 (as of March 31, 2006), has capital of 95 million yen ($830,000 with annual sales of $120 million), and the president is Kiyokazu Konishi.

“With this move, all of Denso Elecs functions will be centered at the Agui Plant including the existing production facilities for industrial robots,” said Masatoshi Ano, senior managing director in charge of Denso’s Corporate and Administration Centers.

Products produced by Denso Elecs are developed by Denso Wave Inc., a Denso company that manufactures industrial products. “Following the relocation of Denso Elecs, we plan to move the development division of Denso Wave, currently located on the same premises as Denso headquarters, to the Agui Plant,” said Ano. We anticipate that will take place in fiscal 2007 or later and will help increase production and development efficiency.”

Denso Corp., headquartered in Kariya, Aichi prefecture, Japan, is a global supplier of advanced technology, systems, and components. Worldwide, the company employs approximately 106,000 people in 32 countries and regions, including Japan. Consolidated global sales for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2006, totaled $27.2 billion, the company says. Denso common stock is traded on the Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya stock exchanges in Japan.

In March, Denso announced today that it had established its second China-based company (in Tianjin) Tianjin Poong Sung Electronics Co. Ltd., to produce instrument clusters. The new company will begin production at the end of 2006. In 2010, employment is expected to reach 80 people and sales are projected to reach approximately $23 million (2.7 billion yen) by 2010. Reason cited for that expansion was to meet production needs of Korean automotive manufacturers in China. Denso customers are said to include all the world’s major automobile manufacturers.
