Dolch Computer Systems’ (Fremont, CA) FieldPAC all-metal portable computer combines size, ruggedness, and mobility for demanding field conditions. The aluminum enclosure provides protection, while the computer includes a user-definable, full-size, shared ISA/PCI expansion slot, along with two standard PCMCIA/CardBus slots. The BatteryPAC option provides up to six hours of operation without an ac power source.

FieldPAC’s rugged attache enclosure is formed using two matched case halves of deep-drawn industrial aluminum. The adjustable upper display section pivots on two high-strength, constant-torque hinges. Positive action latches are provided to secure the unit in the closed position, which creates an extremely stiff and rugged enclosure. The case has a comfortable integral carry handle, sealed I/O covers, and shock-absorbing rubber feet, providing system protection.

A 14.1-in. TFT display accompanies a full-size detachable keyboard, CD-ROM, removable hard drive, serial and parallel ports, audio, USB, and Ethernet.
