Portable TEDS reader enables review of entire transducer data sheets

Endevco’s rugged TEDS Reader reportedly has been rigorously tested for performance in most environments.

Endevco —a leading designer and manufacturer of vibration, shock, and pressure measurement instrumentation—has recently introduced a portable engineering tool said to allow users to quickly and easily review full contents of any embedded IEEE P1451.4 TEDS (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) via a PDA (or pocket PC).

The new TEDS Reader displays all contents of the TEDS memory chip, located inside the transducer, using a Dell Axim X3 PDA as its control and readout device. Sensitivity, location, and calibration coefficients are among the vital information readable. Endevco’s TEDS Reader shows the transducer data sheet in full detail, in contrast to similar devices that only read certain lines of a template, according to the company.

Engineers can also use the PDA to write task-specific information to user fields in the TEDS Reader, as defined in the IEEE P1451.4 standard. The system also includes an interface cable with 10-32 transducer connector. Endevco is a subsidiary of U.K.-based Meggitt plc.
