Below are nine summaries on fuses, power harvesting, power supplies, power transformers, safety disconnect switches, power design training, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
In related news, the portion of the power supply market that will employ some form of digital loop control is expected to grow at an average annual rate of about 45% for at least the next five years, according to recent analysis by Darnell Group . Digital power growth will be almost five times faster than the overall market, the company’s research said. By 2013, the digital power converter market (PDF) is projected to exceed 1.4 billion units.
"To put the market in perspective, the worldwide total available ac-dc power supply and dc-dc converter unit market is set to grow at an average rate of only about 10% between 2008 and 2013," stated Linnea Brush, senior analyst with Darnell. "This includes external and embedded ac-dc power supplies, along with isolated and non-isolated dc-dc converters. A market of 1.4 billion units is still less than half the total available market, so digital control will continue to grow rapidly over the next five years, and beyond," Brush said.

Chloride Sinergy uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) product line expanded to include the Sinergy S II series single-phase UPS.

Chloride Sinergy uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) product line expanded to include the Sinergy S II series single-phase UPS. Ideally suited for a wide range of critical industrial applications, as well as telecommunications, datacom, Voice over IP, retail, and medical imaging applications, the Sinergy S II has online double conversion technology to handle irregularities in the electrical system and render brief power disruptions harmless, while also providing battery back-up to bridge prolonged power outages, at an affordable price, Chloride says.
To help with power designs, Fairchild Semiconductor begins its sixth season of worldwide technical seminars this month. These one day comprehensive seminars provide power design engineers design techniques, product technologies and industry trends to develop energy-efficient applications. The seminars initially will be held in more than 20 cities in North and South America and Asia beginning in September. Fairchild Semiconductor provides a list of these locations, schedules and descriptions of each technical session, as well as registration information. Power Seminars are also scheduled to begin in February 2009 in Europe.

Ferraz Shawmut Fused Selective Coordination Panels

National Electrical Code (NEC) changes, implemented in the 2005 code cycle and refined in the 2008 edition, require selective coordination in a number of critical circuits. Ferraz Shawmut Fused Selective Coordination Panels can help. NEC requires selective coordination for Emergency (700.27), Legally Required Standby (701.18), Essential Electrical Systems (517.26) and Critical Operations Power Systems (708.54). Selective coordination forces the protective device nearest to a fault to trip before any upstream protective device, ensuring that critical loads connected in parallel to the fault are not interrupted.
Fused solutions are more cost effective than circuit breakers, company says, and provide selective coordination with 2:1 ratios, using Ferraz Shawmut Amp-Trap 2000 fuses. Features include a bonded ground bar and a neutral bar with set-screw terminations. MLO (main lugs only) terminations include an optional molded case switch. Branch circuit breakers provide circuit isolation, and the panel comes with a 100 A, 200 A or 300 A copper main bus. The panels accommodate 12 to 42 circuits.

Leviton expanded its line of PowerSwitch watertight safety disconnect switches.

Leviton expanded its line of PowerSwitch watertight safety disconnect switches with the addition of the DS30AX.
It is a compact 30 A, 600 V ac, non-fused switch.
Leviton PowerSwitch safety disconnect switches include 30-, 60- and 100-A rated devices in fused and non-fused versions.
The DS30AX, a non-fused horsepower-rated switch in a watertight enclosure, is said to be ideal for motor disconnect applications in a wide variety of industrial environments.

Littelfuse 0501 Series surface-mount 1206-size fuse

Littelfuse 0501 Series surface-mount 1206-size fuse , specifically designed to provide fast-acting protection for high-current voltage regulator modules and dc-to-dc converters.
With an ultra high interrupt rating of 150 A at 24 V dc, the 0501 Series fuse provides circuit protection against short-circuit current surges. Unlike comparable fuses, the 0501 Series has a temperature rating 20% higher than its closest competitor, the company claims.
The new fuse operates effectively in temperatures from -55

Murata Power Solutions CEF400-112C series is a new 400 W, single output ac / dc switching power supply.

The Murata Power Solutions is a new 400 W, single output ac/dc switching power supply for distributed power architecture (DPA) designs requiring reliable 12 V bulk power.
The active power-factor-corrected (PFC) power supply features an integral fan.
The fan enables the power supply to deliver 400 W of continuous power in a low-profile 1U package without the need for additional external airflow.

A conformal coating allows Puls power supplies to be used in harsh applications and environments.
RoHS approved Standex Electronics transformers are designed for demanding applications.

A conformal coating allows Puls power supplies to be used in harsh applications and environments.
The conformal coating protects the power supply from contamination, moisture and vibration where standard power supplies might fail.
Puls offers seven standard 24 V dc models with conformal coating.
The units have a variety of output wattages and are offered in single and three phase.
RoHS approved Standex Electronics transformers are designed for demanding applications, including those within the diagnostic industry and medical device arena.
Harnessing the advantages of energy harvesting and radio frequency technology for ambient monitoring, AdaptivEnergy has developed a battery-free, wireless sensor using MSP430 MCUs and RF technology from Texas Instruments . Utilizing the efficient AdaptivEnergy Joule-Thief technology combined with TI’s MSP430 microcontrollers, RF and ez430-RF2500 development kit, tiny piezoelectric-based sensors harvest energy from mechanical vibrations to remotely monitor, detect and report critical conditions in various environments– all without wires or batteries – making remote structural and safety monitoring an easy and affordable process.
