The NEMA Primary Industrial Control Index dropped 11% and the Primary Industrial Control and Adjustable Speed Drives Index fell 11% in 4Q02, according to data collected by the Industrial Automation Control Products and Systems Section of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA, Rosslyn, VA). Declines over the last two quarters left the Primary Industrial Control Index at a value of 68.9, which parallels 4Q01, when the index hit its lowest mark since 4Q91. The 10.5% percent decline in the Primary Industrial Control and Adjustable Speed Drives Index did not completely erase the modest gains over the past year. The 89.5 index value is nearly 3% higher than its 4Q01 level.
