Honeywell Process Solutions has received a $4.1 million contract to automate all major areas of the Tata Steel G-blast furnace in Jamshedpur, India. The integrated automation solution will allow the Tata Steel to operate the furnace at peak efficiency by linking controls and sharing information across all major furnace operations. The project is part of a facility upgrade and the second recent contract for Honeywell from Tata Steel. In January 2003, Experion PKS (process knowledge system) was installed to control four boilers at the operation.

In other news, Honeywell Process Solutions has formed a relationship with Symbol Technologies, Inc ., to supply wireless industrial control solutions to industrial customers. Honeywell will integrate its asset management software with Symbol ruggedized mobile computing, wireless infrastructure and advanced data capture devices to allow customers to collect data, monitor assets and control operations from anywhere in their facility. The solutions are expected to be available later this quarter

Invensys APV has won a Danish Kroner multi-million contract to build a new cheese production plant at the Them Cooperative Dairy in Silkeborg, Denmark. The 1000 sq m plant will be able to produce more than 14 tons of cheese a day when it begins operation in October. In addition, wastewater treatment costs are expected to drop because of reduced effluent discharge from the cooling of the cheeses. The original plant was smaller. Plant operations will be controlled by an Invensys InTouch system.
Also of interest: Blacoh Fluid Control now offers a free demonstration CD on their pump and instrumentation products. Intended to help users improve performance throughout the process system, the informational disk features material on Sentry pulsation dampeners and surge suppressors, Spill-Stop leak containment, and Sentinel diaphragm seals.
