Galil DMC FamilyGalil Motion Control announces the AMP-43540, the newest member of its multiaxis drive family. The 4-axis servo drive provides sinusoidal commutation and resides inside Galil’s DMC-4040 or DMC-4143 4-axis motion controller enclosure. Packaging of the multiaxis drives with the motion controller saves cost, space, and wiring. The new Amp-43540 contains four transconductance, PWM amplifiers for driving brushless servo motors at 20-80 V dc. Each amplifier drives motors operating up to 8 A continuous, 15 A peak per axis. The amplifier provides sinusoidal commutation assuring smooth motion, especially important in precision positioning applications using linear motors. The drive also provides automatic initialization for commutation and requires no Hall effect sensors. Gain settings of the amplifier are user-programmable at 0.4, 0.8, and 1.6 Amp / Volt. The   switching frequency is 33 kHz. The amplifier offers protection for over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current, short-circuit and over-temperature. A shunt regulator option is available. Packaging of the 4-axis drive inside the motion controller enclosure saves space compared to using external drives. The DMC-4040 4-axis controller and drive package dimensions are 8.1-in. x 7.3-in. x 1.7-in. Two 4-axis drives can also be installed inside the DMC-4080 8-axis controller package, which measures 11.5-in. x 7.3-in. x 1.7-in. The controller and drive package reduces costs. The 4-axis AMP-43540 drive adds just $1000 to the motion controller in single quantity and $600 in 100 quantities. Other multiaxis drives available from Galil include 20 W, 500 W, and 750 W servo drives and drives for stepper motors.
