Moxa Protocol Converter

(MPC), a software engine from Moxa that runs on the company’s embedded computers, establishes bi-directional data stream channels between any two embedded computer ports, and loads custom-written drivers (in C) that audit the data stream as it flows from one port to port.

With MPC, developers can establish a communication channel that connects any combination of two channel ports without additional programming. Users can program drivers either by modifying an existing driver or adding a driver to a channel that performs specific tasks. MPC is also easily configured with the Microsoft Windows-based Moxa Device Manager (MDM), a remote management tool for managing the company’s embedded computers on a local area network (LAN). The engine supports industrial network communications such as Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII, and RFC-2217. MPC allows developers to add proprietary protocols and applications.

“MPC can solve issues faced by most solution providers on how to coordinate the flow of data between a wide range of devices and protocols,” says C.F. Lin, director of Moxa Software R&D Division. Combined with the command-line free, MDM agent interface, users can easily control and monitor embedded computers at remote sites, he says.

MPC and MDM are provided free with Moxa’s embedded computers. Users can download the MPC package and the MDM from the Download Center at the company Web site.
