PTO to host free Profinet seminars in 2004

The Profibus Trade Organization (PTO) plans to host free, half-day technical seminars on Profinet in five cities in 2004. "This in-depth seminar will be a technical overview of the all-new Profinet fieldbus protocol, and help take interested users a step closer to implementation of this technology," says Michael Bryant, PTO’s executive director.

The Profibus Trade Organization (PTO) plans to host free, half-day technical seminars on Profinet in five cities in 2004. "This in-depth seminar will be a technical overview of the all-new Profinet fieldbus protocol, and help take interested users a step closer to implementation of this technology," says Michael Bryant, PTO’s executive director. The half-day seminar will cover:

  • Basics of Ethernet;

  • Ethernet in industrial automation;

  • Real-time Profinet; and

  • Profinet object creation and implementation.

The seminar will also include a live demo of Profinet and an opportunity to ask specific technical questions.
The schedule for PTO’s 2004 Profinet technical seminar is:

  • Houston, TX on March 16;

  • San Francisco, CA on May 11;

  • Detroit, MI on July 20;

  • Boston, MA on Sept. 9; and

  • Atlanta, GA on Nov. 16.

Profinet is an Ethernet-based standard for distributed automation. It integrates existing fieldbus systems, specifically Profibus, simply and without change. The use of established Ethernet-based IT technologies allows the connection of the automation/plant level with the corporate management level, including the direct exchangeability of order and production data. Internet connectivity can make it possible to initiate orders and carry out remote servicing and maintenance measures.
