Tel-Aviv, Israel —A novel product for continuous ultrasonic level measurement of liquids and solids was introduced at Interkama 99. Called MonoScan, the instrument is said to offer radar-like accuracy, yet is priced favorably even with ultrasonic devices. It outperforms "standard" ultrasonics by taking fuller advantage of the standing-wave principle to obtain maximum amplitude signals for best accuracy, resolution, repeatability, and linearity. Target accuracy is 0.2% of range over distances of 0.6-15 m (2-49 ft) for liquids and 0.6-8.5 m (2-28 ft) for solids. MonoScan remains reliable through foams, temperature variations, and other harsh environments, says the company. The device is easily installed by the user and requires no calibration. MonoScan is a loop-powered (4-20 mA) device with a built-in LCD screen. Applications range from storage and process tanks to measurements of open channel-flow and diameters of spinning paper rolls.
