By Control Engineering Staff May 11, 2006

Datalogic Group , with headquarters in Bologna, Italy, through its acquisition of PSC Inc., has become a member of Intermec ’s RFID Rapid Start program, according to Intermec Inc. Datalogic Group manufacturers CCD (charge-coupled device) and laser-based bar-code readers, mobile computers, and RFID systems. The program closed Aug. 31, 2005, but gives participants access to various portfolios of the intellectual property within Intermec’s 150+ RFID patents and makes Datalogic an Intermec RFID licensee.

Intermec says Datalogic joins 19 other companies that elected to license various portfolios of Intermec RFID patents made available to Rapid Start licensees. “We are pleased with the extension of the Intermec RFID license to Datalogic, as this will provide us access to Intermec’s current and future RFID technology innovations and simplify intellectual property issues around RFID to accelerate rollouts of this important technology,” said Datalogic vice chairman and CEO, Roberto Tunioli.
