Milwaukee, Wis. and Pleidelsheim, Germany - Rockwell Automation and Power Automation , a provider of soft CNCs, announced May 8 that Rockwell Automation Global Manufacturing Solutions will resell the Power Automation PA 8000 soft computerized numerical control (CNC) for machine tool and powertrain applications.

The action comes in response to end-user and OEM demand for an open, flexible CNC-based control solution that incorporates Rockwell Automation Logix, NetLinx, and ViewAnyWare architectures. These architectures deliver diagnostics and machine performance information needed to increase productivity and improve manufacturing. Combining the open CNC expertise of Power Automation with the control, networking, and human machine interface strengths of Rockwell Automation will allow end users to simplify the multi-axis control integration required for machine tool and powertrain applications.

"By packaging the PA 8000 with our existing portfolio of products and services, we will provide a CNC-based solution that allows end users to more easily develop and share part program data with all parts of their enterprise anywhere in the world," said Dick Eshleman, vp, Rockwell Automation Global Manufacturing Solutions. "This agreement will fulfill the need for an open CNC solution from leading suppliers of automation control, integration, and CNC."

"Working with Rockwell Automation Global Manufacturing Solutions gives us access to a control and networking partner with a history of global customer successes," said Bernhard Hilpert, president and ceo of Power Automation. "It gives us the market access we need to enhance the relationship we have with our customers and our PA Stars channel partners located worldwide."

Power Automation was founded in 1993 and became publicly held in 1998. The company develops and sells software and hardware for PC-based CNC systems.

Rockwell Automation brings together leading brands in industrial automation including Allen-Bradley controls and engineered services, Rockwell Software factory management software, Dodge mechanical power transmission products, and Reliance Electric motors and drives. The company also is a provider of contact management technologies and applications that help companies more efficiently manage interaction with their own customers.
