Rockwell product enhancements boost HMI capabilities

Developments from Rockwell Automation are enhancing the HMI capabilities of two of its product lines. RSView Machine Edition 3.1 HMI software can now be added to Allen-Bradley MobileView terminals. In another area, a new small-footprint controller integrates simple control and HMI capabilities.

Portable HMI systems users can reduce total cost of ownership and achieve faster setup and changeover times with the new option of pre-loading RSView Machine Edition (ME) 3.1 HMI software from Rockwell Software to Allen-Bradley MobileView machine terminals and guard terminals. In addition, MobileView terminals now ship with the Microsoft Windows CE 4.1 operating system (OS).

With these modifications, users no longer need to install and maintain a separate server to access HMI software. RSView ME HMI application development software lets operators monitor and control individual machines or small processes. It is often used with MobileView portable HMI devices that help users control machines from remote locations. RSView ME was previously available only for computers running Windows 2000 OS. The enhancements are part of Rockwell’s ViewAnyWare strategy.

Pico GFX-70 small-footprint controller features multi-function HMI.

The Allen-Bradley Pico GFX-70 small-footprint controller features a multi-function HMI. Combining control and HMI capabilities, the device adds to the Pico family of nano controllers designed to perform simple logic, timing, counting and real-time clock operations. Engineers can use the integrated graphic display to program both control and HMI functionality with one software package or with on-display buttons.

Device consists of three modular parts: an HMI, processor/power supply, and I/O modules. HMI is physically attached to the processor and I/O points from the outside of the panel through standard 22.5-mm buttonholes. Monochrome LCD screen can be used as an operator interface or linked to control operations to provide real-time feedback. It shows text, date and time, as well as custom messages and graphics, allowing operators to acknowledge fault messages, enter values and initiate actions. Backlit, 70-mm display is IP65-rated for protection against dust and water; keypad buttons are illuminated for low-light conditions.
