Schneider Electric launches Preventa safety line

Hannover, Germany; Hannover Fair - Making a major thrust into the burgeoning machine safety business, Schneider Electric showed the world its new 'Preventa' line of safety controllers and safety input devices for both standalone and networked applications. All of the components, which are coloured bright red, are manufactured at Telemecanique plants in France.

The Preventa XPS-MP safety relay is the base controller module for standalone operation. Schneider will sell two versions, a universal module that is capable of monitoring two safety functions simultaneously, and an 'optimum' module for OEMs that is purpose built for one safety function. The Universal version allows the user to select the type of safety devices to be monitored from a menu of 15 choices.

Larger safety systems will be networked following the AS-i 'safety at work' standard. Schneider will offer AS-i safety monitors and bus couplers that allow standard safety input devices to connect directly to AS-i systems. All components comply with the EN 954-1 safety standard and can be used in safety applications up to category 4.

Also in the Schneider catalogue is a range of safety input devices, including emergency stop switches, light curtains, safety mats, limit switches, coded magnetic switches, foot switches, and two hand control switches.
