Security courses developed for process control managers

Bethesda, MD —Four control systems and SCADA security courses are being offered for information security and process control personnel early this spring. Part of the 2006 Process Control and SCADA Security Summit, the classes are scheduled for Mar.1-3 in Orlando, FL. Sponsors include the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, national Cyber Security Div., and Dept. of Energy, in cooperation with the SANS (SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security) Institute. Courses are free, based on available space.

The Summit is a non-commercial, user-to-user conference on what works in protecting industrial control systems against cyber attacks. Event includes pre-Summit courses taught by engineers with hands-on experience. They demonstrate actual attacks, summarize threats, and design primary mitigation techniques. Summit courses feature process control and information security managers sharing techniques they are using, tools that work, and lessons they’ve learned in these areas.

Two courses are designed are designed for those in power and energy generation and distribution organizations. They are NERC-certified for continuing education credits. Two other courses are broader in scope and directed at those in all types of industries that use automated process control technology.
