Sensors and data acquisition products at NMW are likely to give PC-based systems data they need to succeed in automation and control fields.

BEI Sensors & Systems Co. (Sylmar, Calif.) launched its LIE5 Series linear incremental encoders in North America following its recent strategic alliance with Carl Zeiss (Jena and Oberkochen, Germany) to market the latter’s products. LIE5 features interpolation circuitry for resolutions up to 0.1 micron and dual scanning arrays that allow sensor readings under dirt and dust contamination.

Emphasizing vision technology as an automation tool and as its core competency, DVT Corp. (Norcross, Ga.) demonstrated new connections to SmartImage Sensor system via cooperative ventures with Imagination Systems (a Nematron division in Virginia Beach, Va.) for industrial PCs; Daedal ( Parker Hannifin ‘s motion control division); and Applied Statistics for SPC Software. DVT also released its FrameWork 1.3 product with several enhanced features.

Using camera patented image acquisition technology, DVT’s Series 700 includes a compact 1.5 × 3 × 5 in. camera unit and Windows 95/NT compatible software to create a precision measurement system. Working at production speeds greater than 4,000 parts per minute, the Series 700 system can perform blob analysis, complex precision measurements with mathematical calibrations and scaling, read 2D codes, provide statistical process control, robot, and motion control interfaces, store and manage hundreds of image records, and support network communications.
