Sensors Expo 2005: Xsens launches miniature attitude, heading sensor

Chicago, IL— Xsens Technologies B.V. is launching what it reports is the world’s smallest attitude and heading reference system (AHRS/IMU) this week at Sensors Expo 2005 , June 6-9, at McCormick Place’s Lakeside Center. Based on the company’s MT9 product, its new MTi is a matchbox-sized, inertial-measurement unit with solid-state inertial sensors and earth-magnetic field sensors.

MTi provides drift-free, gyro-enhanced attitude and heading output with 0.5-degree accuracy, computed internally on a low-power DSP, as well as 3-D acceleration, 3-D rate-of-turn and 3-D magnetic field data. MTi is available in various digital output modes, RS-232/422/485 and USB, as well as analog voltage output of roll, pitch, and heading angles. Its compact housing (58 x 58 x 22 mm or 2.3 x 2.3 x 0.9 in.) has robust mounting tabs and a tough connector, enabling easy integration in several applications. Additionally, a software development kit is available with Windows and Linux objects, as well as sample code in C/C++, Matlab, LabVIEW, and VBA.

Netherlands-based Xsens adds that MTi has been designed for new applications, such as control of autonomous or remote-controlled mobile robots and unmanned marine, land, and aerial vehicles (UAV). Other applications include stabilization of pipeline inspection tools and stabilization of cameras for inspection, security, and augmented reality applications.
