Sensors Expo 2006: Current transducers tolerate noisy environments

Series 3 “next generation” current transducers from Raztec Ltd. feature a Hall Effect sensor assembly mechanically combined with a toroid of high-performance magnetic material in a compact design.

Series 3 current transducers from Raztec Ltd. debuted at Sensors Expo 2006, held earlier this month in the Chicago area. Devices consist of a Hall Effect sensor assembly mechanically combined with a toroid of high performance magnetic material. Raztec adds a close-coupled, 12-bit analog-to-digital converter said to provide a precisely calibrated digital output stream that is directly proportional to the current flowing in the sampled conductor, yet is extremely tolerant of supply-voltage variations.

Fully functional evaluation kits are available for the Series 3 devices.

Series 3 builds on the high performance of its analog predecessors, adding ease of use, tolerance of electrically noisy environments, packaged design, and industry standard communications protocol for direct connection to a microcontroller’s I/O port. Product covers a wide range of measurable current. Single-package design provides accurate current sensing from approximately 1 mA to more than 80 A, and offers galvanic isolation from the circuit under measurement. Fully functional evaluation kits are available to help establish which of the Series 3 product range is most suited for a particular application.
