SERCOS interface schedules technical seminar

Stuttgart, Germany - The SERCOS interface interest group announced Oct. 24 that it will hold a one-day technical seminar on its Serial Real-Time Communication System (SERCOS) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 13, 2001. The event will be located at the interest group's competency center at the Institute for Control Engineering and Machine Tool Manufacturing Units at the Universitry of Stuttgart.

SERCOS is the standardized, digital interface - designated IEC 61491 - for communication between controls, digitally controlled drives, and I/O output modules. It is based on a fiberoptic ring with transmission rates up to 16 Mbps.

Dipl.-Ing Rober Kynast, a member of SERCOS interface working group within the ZVEI, will conduct the seminar. Mr. Kynast is chairman of the Standardization Working Gtroup in IEC and CENELEC and head of SERCOS interface's Technical Working Group.

The SERCOS interface seminar will provide information for development and application engineers, who work in the fields of conception, design and application of controls, drives and I/O assemblies based on the SERCOS standard. The seminar's contents is likely to include:

  • Possibilities for implementing SERCOS for industrial use;

  • SERCOS transmission technologies;

  • Communication channels for cyclic and non-cyclic communication;

  • Command execution;

  • Initialization (phase acceleration), synchronization and fault clearing; and

  • Outlook for future developments.
