Servo motor integrates gearbox

Mequon, Wis.— Allen-Bradley MP Series Integrated Gear Motors combine a servo motor and gear box to deliver a 40% smaller and 25% lighter package than traditional designs with an add-on gearbox. A single- or multi-turn feedback device is included. Reducing the size of rotational masses in the integrated design led to the motor's 80% operating efficiency, much higher than standard units.

Mequon, Wis.- Allen-Bradley MP Series Integrated Gear Motors combine a servo motor and gear box to deliver a 40% smaller and 25% lighter package than traditional designs with an add-on gearbox. A single- or multi-turn feedback device is included. Reducing the size of rotational masses in the integrated design led to the motor's 80% operating efficiency, much higher than standard units. New MP Series gear motors are available for 230- and 460-volt inputs with peak torque ratings up to 300 Nm (221 lb-ft). Three frame sizes are available now for 40, 100, and 250 Nm peak torque. Four gear ratios apply to each size, with output speeds up to 194 rpm. Larger sizes are in the works for later in 2002. The two-stage planetary gear reducer holds backlash to 3 arc minutes. www.rockwell.com Rockwell Automation
