Alpharetta, GA - Siemens Energy and Automation released version 5.2 of Simatic STEP 7, which includes support for Microsoft Windows XP Professional, configuration in runtime (with supporting S7 CPUs), as well as online help and updates to an internal system hardware catalog over the Internet. System information is better organized for improved ergonomics, meaning that the user needs to open fewer windows for access to data.

The product has included integrated SCADA and HMI configuration tools, sharing databases and objects with the company's Simatic WinCC process and visualization software and ProTool and ProTool/Lite operator panel configuration software.

The IEC 61131-3 compliant package offers a common engineering and configuration environment for dedicated hardware (PLCs), PC-based, or Microsoft Windows CE control solutions. Configuration data need be entered only once for deployment on a PLC, PC, or CE panel. Five programming languages (ladder diagram, function block diagram, instruction list, sequential function chart (with the S7-Graph option), or structured text (with the S7-SCL option) are offered.
