London, U.K.— Siemens AG SAP AG to link what it reports are the previously separate worlds of production and business data together into one information portal. The two firms say their solution, Real Time Operations Intelligence, will enable a comprehensive overview of a company’s operations and up-to-date analyses of everything from production and plant use to trends in demand, market prices, order status, and costs.

These analyses reportedly will allow rapid decision-making, improved procedures, business efficiency, and optimized production processes. Siemens and SAP’s combined solution links the shop-floor and the top floor, and allows both companies to begin setting a new IT standard specifically targeted for the oil and gas-related applications. SAP provides enterprise business solutions to users in the oil and gas industry.

Real Time Operations Intelligence is based on NetWeaver, SAP’s open integration and application platform, and on Siemens’ XHQ information portal. Siemens reports that it developed a comprehensive integration between NetWeaver and the Real Time Operations Intelligence. This integration will allow seamless transfer of business data from NetWeaver with enterprise, plant, and production-specific data from Siemens in one portal. The result is actionable decision support and up-to-date comparison of actual performance versus desired business and operational objectives with the advantage of dynamic, real-time data from deep within plant and supply operations. Critical business processes are visible, and can be readily optimized throughout the enterprise.

‘This partnership between Siemens and SAP creates a complete business solution that ranges all the way from the automation and planning level right up to the corporate management level’, says Dr. Thomas Moser, president of the IT Plant Solutions Division of Siemens’ Industrial Solutions and Services Group. ‘From now on, managers can receive role-specific, informative data in real time, free of any unnecessary details. This will allow them to react quickly to changes in production or the market. Productivity improvements can be experienced across the entire value-add chain of the business.’
