Invensys Operations Management has released SimSci-Esscor Visual Flow version 5.4, the newest edition of its popular flare and relief network design simulation solution. Version 5.4 provides greater simulation capabilities, enhanced integration with other SimSci-Esscor applications and support for the latest operating environments. Visual Flow is a key component of the company’s SimSci-Esscor Process Engineering Suite.

SimSci-Esscor Visual Flow version 5.4.The Visual Flow simulator aids process and safety engineers in designing, modeling, and documenting plant fluid-flow systems, including flare and relief systems. The simulator provides fast, reliable, and accurate solutions for piping applications that range from line sizing and vessel de-pressuring, to rating complex relief and flare systems. Regulatory compliance is a key issue in every process facility or plant today. The Visual Flow design simulation solution’s documentation capabilities reduce the effort needed during regulatory audits and lower the cost of compliance.

Key capabilities include:

• Rigorous simulation for modeling flare and relief systems to ensure adequate design and safe operation;
• Handles single and multiphase fluid-flow systems by using point-by-point thermodynamics and pressure-drop calculations;
• Applications include relief networks, systems containing any configuration of multiple flares, relief valves, knock-out drums, and loops;
• Calculates fluid equilibria and physical properties using industry-standard thermodynamic packages with comprehensive pure component databanks using SIM4ME Thermo;
• Integration with Thermo Data Manager 3.5; and
• Provides DIERS compliance – Phase 2, including homogeneous direct integration - RV sizing method, Darby-Molavi viscosity correction factor, user added liquid viscosity, line sizing, and network solving using rated flow; and
• Supports multi-user environments for better engineering collaboration and support for Windows 7.0.
