Spider credit-card-sized single-board computer consumes as little as 4 W of power and features a standalone operation and hot swappability that make it suitable for a broad range of embedded applications, from distributed control systems and scalable telecom blade servers to hand-held computing, in-flight entertainment and defense/homeland security. Self-booting device is a virtual PC on a chip. It comes in two versions: low power P501 based on IBM’s 400 MHz 440GP and high-performance P502 based on IBM’s 800 MHz PowerPC 440GX. Both come standard with two Ethernet ports for easy connection to other Spider modules, external packet switches and other Ethernet-port-equipped systems.
