SPS/IPC/Drives trade show: new CANopen specifications


New specifications of CANopen industrial network protocol are available: CANopen application layer (CiA 301 and CiA 302), the standardized gateways for TCP/IP networks (CiA 309), AS-interface (CiA 446), and multi-layered CANopen networks (CiA 400). Staff from the related network organization will be available at the CAN in Automation (CiA) exhibit at the SPS/IPC/Drives trade show in Nuremberg, Germany (Hall 1, booth 537), Nov. 28-30 to explain how the new specifications can translate into new functions.

The international user's and manufacturer's organization for Controller Area Network (CAN) are expected to offer the latest information about the CANopen specifications and the group's international standardization activities, such as the CANopen profile for motion control (IEC CD 61800-7). Other profiles are underway for photovoltaic systems, wind power plants, and wireless via radio frequency identification (RFID) reading devices. Representing CiA at the SPS/IPS/Drives, Thilo Schumann will discuss CANopen Safety, and Reiner Zitzmann will talk about standardized gateways to CANopen networks.

The non-profit group CiA e.V. is said to represent more than 420 member companies worldwide. CiA members develop CAN-based higher-layer protocols and device profiles. CiA representatives work in international standardization committees, such as IEC and ISO. The non-profit group organizes free seminars to spread the knowledge of the CAN technology. CAN in Automation (CiA) GmbH, the commercial affiliate of the non-profit group, organizes seminars, conferences worldwide, sells the Conformance Test tool for CANopen devices, and provides the CANopen Safety Chip CSC01.
