Steam-sterilizable pH sensor resists cracking

The Rosemount Analytical PUR-Sense 3800 from Emerson Process Management is an autoclavable and steam-sterilizable pH sensor that reportedly delivers sensor stability as much as five times greater than any other pH sensor. High temperature can cause deterioration of a pH glass sensing membrane; however, the AccuGlass pH bulb on the Rosemount Analytical PUR-Sense 3800 resists cracking and aging and exhibits near theoretical response even at extreme pH values, according to an Emerson Process Management spokesperson.

In simulated cell-culture process, the product exhibited sensor drift below 0.1 pH after an autoclave of 125 °C for 45 minutes. Testing showed continued sensor life after more than 30 autoclave cycles or 50 steam cycles. PUR-Sense reference electrode uses a silver-silver chloride-based reference electrode in combination with a new gelled potassium chloride electrolyte to provide a stable reference potential through the single proprietary ceramic reference junction. It provides an individual quality certification with calibration records and list of wetted materials for each sensor.
