Strategic alliance: Joint effort seeks to grow non-contact robotic measurement, inspection market

Improving manufacturing processes in the automotive industry is among anticipated benefits of a recent alliance to promote growth of the non-contact robotic measurement and inspection market.

Orion, MI —A software firm and an automation company are joining technologies and services to promote growth of the non-contact robotic measurement and inspection market. Applied Manufacturing Technologies Inc . (AMT), a supplier of automation design, engineering, and process consulting services, has entered into a strategic alliance with Perceptron Inc . to couple AMT’s robot programming, custom software design, and engineering simulation services with Perceptron’s non-contact measurement technology. The move, say the companies, intends to help users improve quality, shorten product launch times, and reduce overall manufacturing costs.

The alliance makes AMT one of Perceptron’s preferred suppliers of engineering services and establishes Perceptron as AMT’s preferred supplier of non-contact flexible metrology systems. Said Joseph Campbell, COO of AMT, “Our customers have indicated that this [non-contact metrology solutions] is a critical manufacturing technology and that our combined expertise will prove invaluable to improving their manufacturing processes.”

Perceptron produces information-based process improvement systems for industry and technology components for non-contact measurement and inspection applications. Their products are typically used by automotive and manufacturing companies. AMT is involved in the design, simulation, programming, installation, and support of industrial automation systems especially in the automotive, aerospace, medical, and heavy equipment industries.
