Core Store products are said to come packaged in an easy-to-use encrypted format, and support is available as an option. Cores are offered at economical prices due to the completeness of the packaging and a frictionless sales process, the company says.

Developers at the low-footprint end of themplement functions such as bus controllers, analog-to-digital convertors, memory sections, and microprocessor cores, and typically have usefulness outside of the standard devices the company plans to put into production, so they make them available to fabless semiconductor companies for non-standard products.

Companies mix and match blocks to design SOCile providing limited value. After the purchase, there is the challenge of making everything work together.

IPextreme's Core Store is a way to distribute IP blocks more efficiently and at lower cost to fabless semiconductor companies. They have contracted with three IP developers for Freescale’s newly announced Coldfire V1; a collection of standard AMBA peripherals from National Semiconductor; and Infineon to "catalog" selected IP blocks. Additional cores will be added each quarter.

“By providing a simple and transparent way to buy high-value, silicon-proven semiconductor IP, we are giving customers what they have long asked for,” said Jerry Ardizzone, vice president of sales at IPextreme. “We are excited to introduce an innovative new option for companies to purchase IP.”
